Auto Works
Inc. was founded by Eddie Miller in 1991 out of Pompano Beach
Florida as a complete machine shop remanufacturing cylinder
heads and engines for everyone from repair facilities to hard
core race teams.
Ed Miller
started racing go-karts at 6 years old in California. His father
owned a machine shop - repair shop - and gas station and
happened to be the head tech official for a popular drag racing
association that raced frequently at historical tracks such as
Lions & Irwindale Dragways in Southern California in the early
70's. This is where Eddie grew up hanging onto his dad's
pant legs watching great drivers such as "Jungle Jim" Lieberman,
"Big Daddy" Don Gartlits, "Wild Willy" Boursch and John Force to
name a few. Now you can understand where his need for speed and
passion for building engines stems from.
In the
late 70's Eddie's family moved to Coral Springs, Florida and he took up drag racing as soon as he was old
enough to drive. He would race frequently at Moroso in West
Palm Beach, and the old Miami/Hollywood Speedway in Florida.
In 1983 Eddie drove his first and last 300 lap enduro at Hialeah
Speedway. He was 7 laps in the lead with 20 laps left to go and
the fuel pump went out. From there he moved into a street stock
and ran respectfully from 1984-1985 with quite a few wins. He
always put on a good show for the fans. For instance; once he
won the race with his hood up for the last few laps. Eddie
moved on to race late models from 1985-1989. He got the
opportunity to race with some of South Florida's great drivers,
such as Dickie Anderson, Bobby Brack, and Jack Spraggs to name a
few.
In 1990
Eddie went on a hiatus from racing so that he may focus on
starting his own business and in 1991 he founded Auto Works Inc.
It wasn't until 1996 that he started racing again in the Hooters
Sportsman series finishing 9th in the points.
In 1997
Eddie spent most of his time at the races as a spectator there
to help the drivers he was building engines for. He has a
tendency to give more than just the engine when he builds one.
He puts so much of his own time and special attention into his
engines that it is not a money making venture, but for the love
of the sport instead. He faithfully supports the driver by
being out at the races with them and offering his experience in
both racing and engine building to help his customer.
In
1998 he ran the Coca-Cola Six Pack Series at Hialeah Speedway
and finished 7th in the points at the end of the year.
In 1999 he chose the races he wanted to attend, not running any
particular series. In 2000 he ran the S.A.R.A. (Southern
Automobile Racing Association) Late Model series finishing 6th
place in the points, just 20 points out of 4th place.
In 2001
Eddie went on a hiatus from racing so that he could focus on the
adoption of his little girl and on June 17th 2004 he became a
proud father just shortly after relocating his family and
business to Port St. Lucie Florida.
Auto Works Inc is now doing business as TheEngineWorks.com out
of Port St. Lucie Florida. As times have changed so has the face
of Auto Works Inc. d/b/a TheEngineWorks.com to keep up with the
times of technology. However one thing has stayed the same and
that's the quality of service and passion that Ed Miller has
strived to put into every engine built by his company. Whether
it be a daily driver being rebuilt for a repair facility or a
hard core racer in need of more power their loyal and dedicated
to their customers' needs.
Eddie's back to drag racing now with a plumped up plum crazy
purple 1973 Plymouth Duster that was sporting a big bad green 440
engine originally but it currently has a 537 in it. He has always had a great amount of respect and love for
all forms of racing. He enjoys driving just about anything that
will go fast. Therefore, you could find him one weekend at the
stock car races and the next at the drag strip.
